OCSD5 Honors “Senior Scholars” From The Class of 2018

    The Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five (OCSD5) Board of Trustees honored the top ten percent of the graduating senior classes from Bethune-Bowman High School, North High School, Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, and the High School for Health Professions during their board meeting on April 24, 2018.

    A total of forty-four (44) students, along with their parents and family members, were recognized by the Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Jesse Washington for their hard work and outstanding record of academic achievement. All of the students have been accepted into college and university programs and have cumulatively received scholarship offers in excess of $9.91 million.

The Senior Scholars from each school are:

Bethune-Bowman High School
·             Shamaya Felder received $977,844 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Human Resource Management at the University of Mount Olive.
·             Cemeia Gilliam received $128,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Biology at Allen University.
·             Sahura Levins received $294,384 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Counseling Psychology at Francis Marion University.
·             Saray Popoca received scholarship offers of $644,000 and plans to major in Early Childhood Education at Allen University.
·             Tylar Robinson received $476,720 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Marine Biology at Coastal Carolina University.

North High School
·             Anaya Hawkins received $473,568 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Chemistry or Biology at Lander University.
·             Tori Rutland received $343,248 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Business/Accounting at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
·             Megan Swain received $121,968 in scholarship offers. She is undecided on her choice of colleges.
·             Morgan Swain received $121,968 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Agricultural Education at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School
·             Aubrai Brailey received $40,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Nursing at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
·             Maeghan Brandenburg-Mays received $449,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Chemical Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Jacksonville University, or Delaware State University.
·             Sherwood Campbell, III received $20,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Paleontology at Virginia Tech.
·             Alexis Dowling received $199,680 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Biochemistry at the University of South Carolina or Lander University.
·             Latessa Downing received $62,960 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Nursing at Lander University.
·             London Gadsden received $84,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Med at Clemson University.
·             Imon Govan received $506,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Business Management and Accounting at Lander University.
·             Kimberly Hall received $143,800 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Biology with an emphasis in Genetics at Wofford College or Lander University.
·             Krysten Hamilton received $95,450 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Fashion Merchandising and Design at Johnson and Wales University.
·             Jayla Hill received $319,840 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Economics at Emory University.
·             Dar’kon Hudson received $371,960 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Finance and Marketing at Claflin University.
·             Kierra Huggins received $40,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Biology at Claflin University.
·             Amy Ideozu received $327,156 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Accounting at North Carolina State University.
·             Jeanette Jackson received $158,960 in scholarship offers. She plans to attend Lander University and is undecided on her major.
·             Malik Jackson, Jr. received $529,496 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Computer Science at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University or the College of Charleston.
·             Cheriton Johnson received $20,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Computer Engineering at Winthrop University.
·             Joshua Johnson received $20,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Computer Science at Savannah State University or Claflin University.
·             Tye Jones received $20,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Psychology at Winthrop University.
·             Hailey Keith received $210,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in International Studies at the College of Charleston.
·             Jordon Mack received $222,160 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Visual Arts with an emphasis on Business at Lander University.
·             Laredon Mitchum received $20,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Game Design/Game Developer at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
·             Nudrat Nawar received $20,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Pre-Med at Wofford College or Clemson University.
·             Ariana Reed received $338,160 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Sociology at Jacksonville University or North Carolina Central University.
·             Shaelyn Rivers-Green received $375,280 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Computer Science/Programming at Furman University.
·             Taylor Smalls received $20,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Pre-Pharmacy at Claflin University.
·             Brianna Stokes received $183,680 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Dental Hygiene at Greenville Technical College.

High School for Health Professions
·             Ariel Davis received $589,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Speech-Language Pathology. She is undecided on her college choice.
·             McKayla Evans received $250,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Political Science at North Carolina A&T State University.
·             Khalia Garvin received $100,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Mathematics at the University of Central Florida.
·             Meagan Greene received $53,700 in scholarship offers and plans to major in English with a Pre-Law concentration at Fayetteville State University.
·             Jelani Haigler received $99,052 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Computer Science at Winthrop University.
·             Jomar Lewis received $102,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Biology at Winthrop University.
·             Tekiah McClary received $147,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Biology/Mathematics at Spelman College.
·             Ahraya McCray received $180,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Biology at the University of South Carolina.
·             Brea Threatt received $12,000 in scholarship offers and plans to major in Psychology (Pre-Med) at the University of South Carolina.

    “I want to congratulate all of our Senior Scholars on their remarkable accomplishments and the future successes that are sure to come their way,” said OCSD5 Superintendent Dr. Jesse Washington. He continued, “I also want to recognize their parents, family members, and teachers for the love, support, and encouragement that helped each of these students along the way.”

    In recognition of their accomplishments, each of the Senior Scholars received a laptop computer, a backpack, a framed copy of a Resolution signed by the Mayors from the City of Orangeburg, the Town of Bowman, and the Town of North, and an honor cord to wear at graduation.
